How much does a locksmith cost in Carlsbad
Lockout prices include the trip. Scheduled work is labor plus one $69 service call. A scheduled locksmith visit in Carlsbad costs that service call plus labor and any parts, and you hear all three before we start. The service call covers the drive and the first look. Labor is priced per lock or per task in the tables below. Parts are the hardware, named by brand and model, when we supply it.
The service call is the one trip charge on the invoice. It is added to the labor once per visit, however many locks we work on, and there is no second trip charge: no separate dispatch, arrival or "security lock" fee. A lockout is priced differently: the lockout price includes the trip, so no service call is added. If you add work once we are there, we quote the addition before doing it.

Lockout service cost
A home lockout costs $95–$165, and the price includes the drive. Where a job falls in the range depends on the lock: a builder-grade knob in a La Costa tract opens faster than a high-security deadbolt, and cars vary by make and year. We ask a few questions on the phone and give you the number before we leave. If we cannot open the door and you decline drilling, you pay only the $69 service call.

Rekey cost per lock
Rekeying costs $25 per cylinder plus one $69 service call, and it keeps your hardware while making every old key useless. A typical Carlsbad tract home has 5 keyed cylinders: the front deadbolt and knob, the door from the garage, the side gate and the slider. That comes to $194. It is an example only; we quote the doors you actually have. If a lock is worn out rather than just exposed, replacing a standard deadbolt costs $95–$165 with the hardware supplied.

Smart lock installation cost
Smart lock installation costs $149 when you supply the lock and $349–$499 when we supply it. The other variable is retrofit or full replacement. A retrofit keeps your existing exterior deadbolt and changes the inside half, so the door looks the same from the street, which helps where an HOA governs front-door finishes in Bressi Ranch or Robertson Ranch. A full replacement swaps the whole deadbolt for a keypad model. Hosts outfitting several doors pay the same per door, and a pre-season service visit is $89 per unit, with multi-unit terms from 3 units; the code setup is covered under keyless entry for rentals.

High-security lock prices
A high-security cylinder costs $195–$295, priced by platform and by lock type; a deadbolt cylinder, a mortise cylinder and a padlock differ. The keys cannot be copied at a kiosk or hardware counter. Duplicates are cut only for the person named on the key card, which is the point of the system.

Access control cost per door
Access control costs $1,200–$2,800 per door. The range is wide because doors on the Palomar Airport Road corridor are not alike. Three things move it:
- Wiring runs. Distance from the door to the controller, and whether cable goes above a drop ceiling or through a hard lid or tilt-up wall.
- Door type. An aluminum storefront, a hollow-metal lab door and a wood suite door each take different locking hardware, and an electrified exit device costs more than a strike.
- Platform licensing. Cloud platforms charge a subscription, typically $60–$180 per door per year depending on the platform and plan. We quote it separately from the installation.

Common questions about our prices
Why do some locksmiths quote $19 on the phone?
To win the call, then raise the bill at the door. It is a known pattern across Southern California: an unlicensed dispatch operation quotes a tiny fee under many names, sends whoever is nearby, and adds labor, drilling and "security lock" fees on site. Before anyone drives out, ask whether the company is licensed and insured, for a full quote including labor, and for the name of the technician. From us you get all three on the call: a licensed and insured company, a price from this page, and who is coming.
Do you charge to come out if you can't open it?
Only the $69 service call. You pay the lockout price only if we get you in, and that price already includes the trip. If we cannot open the door without damage and you decide against drilling or replacing the lock, you pay only the service call, not the lockout price. We tell you on the phone when a lock is likely to need drilling, so you decide before we drive.
Do you take cards?
Yes. We take credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Zelle and checks, and the itemized invoice matches the quote you approved.
Do you charge more on weekends or in La Costa?
No. The same prices apply on Saturday and Sunday during our posted hours (Mon–Sat 7 AM–7 PM · Sun 8 AM–5 PM) and in every Carlsbad ZIP code we serve, 92008, 92009, 92010 and 92011, whether the door is in the Village, La Costa or Aviara. The only surcharge is the $60 after-hours fee, which applies to lockouts after closing, until 10 PM.
